Hey guys! I'm so excited to be starting my LPN schooling FINALLY after years. I've got my appt with financial aid next week, it's an expensive program but I"m hoping financial aid can cover most of it, I'm a single mom.
I know how hard this is going be, I've been a CNA for 5 years so I'm beyond ready for it now...
For those going thru/been thru and LPN program, where do you find grants? I'm so nervous I'm going to have 25k loan when I'm finished! I know it's an investment in my future but dang...it's making me nervous!
Hoping to keep my job as a CNA and work two 12 hour overnight shifts a week just so I can make some money..any advice or anyhting you guys can pass along would be awesome!! Thanks!

25 thousand dollars for an LPN program tells me this is a for profit school ( Kaplan, Carrington, Vista College, Brookline College etc etc).
Did you take any pre-req courses? How long is this program? 12 months? is it accredited by ACEN? Did the admission counselors promise you that you can get student loans to pay for all of it? Please do a search on this forum into for profit schools. Other problems can be that you LPN from this school will not be accepted anywhere else if you want to go on for your RN.
What school is this so I can do some research? I have taught in one of these LPN programs that lured students with promises of becoming a nurse. I also taught in a BSN program where current tuition is $2,700 per semester a total of approximately $22,000.
What state are you in? Have you looked at community college for Associated Degree RN?
My Master's degree cost $9,800 in 2001. I'm planning on returning for my Doctoral degree at same university and it should cost about $16,000 total.

It may be 25k but I hate to sound so nonchalant but so what! Unless you can find another school cheaper and get in go for it! You have to owe someone anyways why not invest in yourself and get an education? Yes you will struggle maybe the whole 12 months but I rather struggle for 12 months vs years and years of barely making anything as a cna! Even if you make 13-15$ as a cna if nursing is your passion go for it

Try the WIA program. 25k is a lot of money. And unless you can get most of it covered by grants or scholarships, I really wouldn't advise you to take out 25k in loans.
The wia program is just the like government if your not poor enough they won't help you! I'm fighting to try to get assistance from wia also if you make over a certain amount it's an issue! That doesn't mean don't go for it God is able so yes try out Wia they pay up to 7,500 then pell grant pays up to 7,500 that's 15 plus fasfa another 4,5 you wouldn't have to take out such a huge loan especially for a lpn program
It is a for profit school, there are no local community colleges in my area, I'd be driving over about 2 hours, and they have 2 year minimum wait lists after you finish 2 years of pre reqs. I would go straight for my RN, however I'm a single parent and taking 2 years to complete my RN is out of the question. I plan to complete a bridge program in the future. This school is one of the top rated schools in my area, and if you want your LPN, this is the place to go. I appreciate the feedback, however.
I've been trying to get into an LPN program for quite some time now so I've done tons of pre reqs, plus being a CNA for 5 years. The financial aid office did not say I needed loans, they offer Title IV financial aid just like any other community college. I did my research with a community college 2 hours north of me which is the closest CC in my area, they offer the same aid, and the program is only a couple thousand less-and their pass rate/retention rate is the worst in the state.
Again thank you for the feedback, but I have done my research for about a year before moving to this area, and this is the only clear choice for schools.
I should also have mentioned the program itself is not 25k, that was including my living expenses for a year, in addition to the program and NCLEX-PN test and licensure. The program itself I believe is 10-15k. Would be doing my RN thru Excelsior most likely, or going back to this school to complete their LPN-RN bridge program, depending how long we're stationed in this area.

I agree w/some others saying that's a lot for an LPN program, but you may be too far along in the process to think about going somewhere else. I took pre-reqs in one state, then went to nursing school in another state for 2 years, had to pay out-of-state tuition for the first year, and still probably didn't pay more, or much more, than $25k, and I graduated just 3+ years ago.
As far as being nervous, that's normal, but just take it one step at a time, and you'll be fine.

Thanks! Yeah that's the thing, the option for schools out here are total crap, this was the affordable one in comparission. It was either this or 35k at Concorde...ummm no. No community colleges, nothing like that unless I drive 2 hours one way and that's not happening. It is pricy but they at least do the financial aid like a community college does. I'm out of options, and time to wait! It's worth it in the end I think to follow my calling.
