what is a bedside nurse?

who is consider a bedside nurse? is private duty nursing bedside care? is working at a doctor's office considered bedside care?correctional nursing?ltc?

Or for that matter could it be considered acute care if the clients have vents, trachs, Ivs, gt, and tpn with pdn?

When I hear the expression "bedside", I include acute care in all areas of the hospital.

I wouldn't necessarily include Dr's offices or correctional nurses. Although many large jails have an infirmary, so I guess that's bedside nursing too.

Basically bedside nurses are those with hands on care, as opposed to those with jobs in education, management, etc.

Just my opinion.

Bedside nursing is taking care of the patient when they are in a bed, usually in a hospital. You would be providing all services that a patient would need, and I mean everything. It can be in different specialties such as critical care or med/surg, etc.

Private duty nursing can include bedside nursing, but not always the case.

Working in a clinic is not bedside nursing, nor is working in corrections in most cases.
