BCIT August 2013 Applicants

The good thing is that, well for me at least, the months January and February always seem to go by really fast. It also helps to keep yourself busy, in that way time passes by even faster. I can't wait until March and April, I'm so happy we don't have to wait until july to hear from nursing!

I haven't handed in my resume yet because I considered that to be apart of the 'documents deadline'. I considered the application itself to be what is due on the 'application deadline'. After reading this and seeing that some say that it was due on Dec. 15, I called in.

The lady that answered seemed to be a little annoyed at me for asking. I said I know the document deadline is Jan 31 and the application deadline was Dec. 15, but I have heard that the Resumes were due on Dec. 15 as well. I just want to make sure when the resumes are due because I have heard different things from different people.

She responded, matter of factly, that the document deadline is Jan. 31 and the application deadline was Dec. 15. (She just repeated what I had just said to her)

I said, So the resume would be included in the document deadline then right? That is what I thought but I was told differently. She said yes.

If it turns out that the resume was due on Dec. 15, then I hope to god that they decide to accept them until Jan. 31 cause this is a little more confusing than it should be.

Hey - it was due the 15th. I handed it in rushed and then asked my admissions officer and she said she will take it up to the 31. So try to hand it in ASAP but don't worry too much. Maybe bring it down tomorrow and explain your situation.

Has anyone gotten in on their first time applying? I think my application is very strong but im still nervous as it is my first time :S

There have been people who were accepted there first time but mostly, I hear, it's 2 or even sometimes 3 times. What did you apply with if you don't mind me asking?

Hey I dont mind at all. I have applied with all of my electives including Libs 7001 and 7002 which I completed last summer. I am only missing HLED. I graduated in May with a Sociology and Psychology degree. I volunteer in three health care places ( seniors home, VGH and one more). I also do other volunteer work. I am also currently taking anatomy and physiology which I mentioned.

I also hear it is around 2 times at least

I'm also taking a Human Anatomy & Physiology (6 credit) course as well. Where are you taking yours, if you don't mind me asking, cat5? :) and I've taken The Canadian Health System, HMGT 7180 for non-nursing students at BCIT and is the exact same course that is supposed to be taken while you're in the program. It was offered during the spring time so I don't know if they still offer it? They did change the name of the course though, that's all. It's really good to hear that we're all done a majority of our electives so it will increase our chances of getting accepted. Btw, this is my second time recompeting for the program, but don't lose hope! Quite a few people get accepted on their first try and from the sounds of it, you seem to have everything you're supposed to have.

I got special status on the wait list on my first try and deferred to the August 2013 semester (which was my plan anyways) since those on the special status are guaranteed admission for the next intake.

I was SO nervous as well because I applied with 100+ credits from SFU, tons of volunteer experience in the health care setting, and some of my electives completed. However, one of my reference letters was "average" and I believe that really weakened my application. Also, I forgot to attach a cover letter with my reference letter explaining my duties when volunteering in a health care setting - so make sure you don't forget to do this!!!

Your application seems strong! I think you have a great chance of getting in on the first try. I was accepted the first time applying to BCIT, so it does happen.

On another note I just started LIBS 7001 and HLED online courses this semester to ease the workload of the program later. I am not sure how I feel about the excessive group work, especially when all communication is just through email and forums.

Does anyone know if Douglas College Biology courses can be credited for the Anatomy & Physiology requirement for BCIT?
