snnurse92, Your credentials seem very well suited for the program and I think your application will be strong. I think taking any of the required LIBS courses is a smart idea. Doing so would not only makes your application more competitive, but it would also lessen your workload once you get into the program. However, it is possible to be accepted without having taken any of the LIBS electives, as I applied without them and was accepted. Good luck!

Thanks for the last two posts SunshineMonkey and dmak26! This is exactly the type of information that I crave right now.

Is anyone else annoyed that it's been almost a month and a half since an e-mail went out that stated " Please continue to check your myBCIT email account regularly. You will be receiving your text book list, uniform/scrubs information, equipment list and a lot more in the next month." and none of this information has been distributed yet? I really hope they get on it quickly.

I got an e-mail this evening stating that the previously scheduled orientation session on May 9th is now cancelled. The orientation will now take place through e-mails and during the first week of classes.

It might bring you guys solace knowing that people who applied for the January intake only heard back from BCIT 2 months before the program start date. So in comparison, hearing ~5 months before isn't so bad. I know waiting is tough, but at least it's not 3 more months.

The TRU A+P course midterms are taken online. They are supposed to be closed book, but there is no invigilator requirement. The Canadian health system course is no longer in the program curriculum as of Jan 2014 and onwards. Considers yourself lucky :) I was actually pretty choked about this, as I just spent 600 bucks to take it, and have probably written close to 40 pages on all the assignments.

I took the TRU A+P classes online. They were self-paced with just 2 midterms and a final. I found them to be pretty easy and would recommend them for sure. The online BCIT courses I am currently taking (HLED 7120, and LIBS 7002) are term based and have been much more time consuming than the TRU courses.

LiquoriceTea, I applied for the January intake, was accepted, then deferred to August. It was my first time applying to BCIT. At the time of my application my credentials were the following: BSc (honors) degree in psychology with distinction from UVIC completed 2009 6 recent anatomy/physiology credits from TRU 5 years experience working as a community support worker with the developmentally disabled 1 years work experience as a group home manager I had little to no volunteer experience, and had taken none of the BCIT liberal arts courses. I don't think you need to worry about your grades in your first few years. In one of the nursing info sessions they stressed the particular importance of grade improvements over the course of ones education. My grades were horrible in my first two years of university as well. Also, I heard the prerequisites for the program will be changing for the Jan 2014 entry. Some of the courses that were previously completed in the program now must be finished before admission. So make sure to check that out. Good luck!

I just paid my commitment fee! Does anyone know how long of a break you get during the program around Christmas time?

Cat5, Your application seems strong! I think you have a great chance of getting in on the first try. I was accepted the first time applying to BCIT, so it does happen. On another note I just started LIBS 7001 and HLED online courses this semester to ease the workload of the program later. I am not sure how I feel about the excessive group work, especially when all communication is just through email and forums.

I'll be starting the BCIT program in August as well! I was accepted into the January intake, but then decided to defer. Good luck to all those who are applying. I know how brutal the waiting can be
