Has anyone used bards midline/extended dwell PIV the PowerGlide??
I have a love hate relationship with it, I love the idea hate the product. (Ok not true hate but I'm aggravated...)
Seems they always clot or kink. Anyone have any tips or experiences they can share with me?

Hello, I also do have issues with them. For me the key is to make sure the vein is straight and clear. I will usually take a peak at the vein with a sagittal plane when using the US to make sure it is free of any clots/stenosis etc. Are you using 18g?
I have only used a few 18ga, mostly the 20ga.
I feel like I assess the vein fully it seems after a day or two they quit functioning properly. I will watch closer of the vein before placement and see if that helps. Thank you!

Our team stopped placing in areas of loose skin. We use Bards new dressing, securis, with very good results. Also never steeper than a 1.5 cm vein.

I've used the first and second generation of them and out of a team of 8 nurses I was the only one that had routine success.
The issue is what is their advantage? Still took about 15 minutes for the entire procedure and cost about $75 (more like $100 since we added a full max barrier kit). The midlines we bought cost $100 with full max barrier and we all could drop one in about 15-20 minutes on average. without the issue of kinking.
Our success rate with midline placement was about 99.5% with an intended dwell success rate of about 80% but our PowerGlide success rate was around 85% with an intended dwell success of about 50%.
What advantage did they have over traditional midlines OR just a longer peripheral IV that costs about $1.50?

We used Bard's PowerGlide with limited success, for the same reasons you mentioned. It was frustrating to have access and not be able to maintain it. What midline do you prefer and why? TIA

Personally I hate them. I can't count the number of them I've had to replace with a picc within 72 hours.
Had yet another of these go bad within 24 hours yesterday. Total waste of time. I refuse to insert them anymore.
