Band 6 Interview/Presentation Help, please!!!

Hello all,

This is first time I have posted to this forum and am in real need of help. I am currently working as a Band 5 Nurse in a Private Hospital. I have just recieved an invitation to an interview for a Band 6 position in the NHS. I was, previous to working in this Private Hospital, working as a Band 6 Nurse in London, so I do have experience. My issue at the moment is that they are asking me:

"At the interview we would like you to give a short presentation on "As a Band 6, how would you engage the Ward Team to enable the ward to meet the Trust's Key Performance Indicators?"

My interview is April 5th and I need to send them a copy of my presentation by 3rd April. They have given me no other information. Please, if you have the time, could somebody help me as to the best way to approach the presentation. I would be so grateful.

Thankyou for your time,

Mary

What type of ward have you applied for, it may help guide you.

Do you know what key indicators are for the area, acute wards are likely to be length of stay, infection rated, pressure damage prevention and efficient use of resources.

Think about how can motivate, lead and encourage staff.

Take a look at my profile, there is some interview guidance in an article in their. Also if you look at some of my other posts in this forum I've given guidance about interview presentation.

Thankyou for taking the time to get back to me. It is really appreciated. I will spend some time looking at your other posts and hopefully build up a clearer picture of what I am trying to achieve with my presentation. The post I have the interview for is Sister/Charge Nurse in Oncology. I have worked in many areas throughout my career but most recently have focused on Haematology and Oncology which is where I want to be. Finding the specific key indicators has been tough. The other sissue I have is that they do not specify how long a presentation they are looking for or what type of presentation, such as Powerpoint etc. I appreciate the time you have taken in replying to me but any further advice would be very helpful and I would be eternally grateful. I need to email them a copy of my presentation by Tuesday 3rd March.

Trust key indicators should be on the intranet as part of their information sharing, if not you can request them via the chief exec office.

Time isn't on your side though so Google your trusts name with key performance indicators.

Quality and safety will feature so providing safe and high quality care.

Achieve financial balance will definitely be there

Efficiency and managing sickness and absence

I'll have a look for some links to point you in the right direction

I would suggest 10 minutes for the presentation and yes, I expect it would be PowerPoint

Thank you so much for all your time and help. I have started putting together a presentation as I type this. Just one last question, how would you look to break down the presentation... As in, if I spend 2-3 minutes talking about what the KPI's are, 3 minutes on how the ward has done recently in regards to the KPI's (if I can get this info) or i not how the KPI's would directly affect the Ward staff on a day to day basis and then the rest talking about how I would involve the staff, in order for them to relate to the KPI's better, such as having meetings discussing how we can improve in key areas. I believe involving the staff and making them feel part of the solution would be a very important part of my presentation... I hope all this makes sense as my mind is going at 100mph at the moment... If you have any further advice regarding this it would be so helpful...

Thankyou, so much, once again

Talk briefly about KPI. Then focus on the ones important to you and patient care.

How you engage staff will be about change management using strong clinical leadership and positive role model

Then a brief conclusion or summing up.

Don't promise anything you can't deliver, acknowledge there will be constraints and how they can be overcome

If you would like me to take a look let me know and I'll PM you my email address.

hi

could please tell me how to make a presentation on -HOW to incorporate 6 cs in to your practice enviornment. Manythanks

I have not used this before .i have a band six interview and have to do a ten minute presentation the question is

going from a band five nurse to a band six post what are the priorities of the first twelve months

What type of ward is it? Is this an internal promotion? What are the hospital and trusts priorities? What nursing sensitive KPI are applicable?

This is an internal promotion on a elderly rehab ward, in a community hospital With urgent care pathway
