Bad Day

Today was one of the worst days that I have had for some time. Needless to say every family member that had an axe to grid decided to come in and yell at me. Mind you I do not care if people grip to me about things that I did or that I can control, but I can not make a doctor or management do anything. I finally started to tell them they need to come in or call on Monday morning and talk to management.

In between getting chewed out, I had to ship one person to the ER. Do all of that paperwork and find a ride for that resident (on a Sunday what a nightmare). Then to end my day, one of my favorite residents passed away:scrying:.

After my 8 hour shift turned into an 11 hour shift, I just want to call in tomorrow. Won't happen, but it is very nice to think about.

I'm sorry! I hope tomorrow turns out to be a MUCH better day!

Aww JB, I'm sorry about your day. Been there done that, didn't get the Tshirt. What keeps me going back? I get HUGS (hey, the residents need 'em too!)

I work 3-11, so everything on Friday night that all of a sudden are "urgent" when the c/o started on Tuesday and family didn't say anything then and they want it fixed NOW sigh

HUGS to you!

Thanks for the replies. I guess I am just a little sad about one of my residents have gone to be with the Lord and I am going to miss her. I know it is for the best, but I am going to miss her sweet little smiles and smart remarks everyday. I also feel for the family who are going to miss her.

Sorry to hear about your bad day and your resident who passed......but....if someone needs to go to the ER why are you looking for a ride for him/her? Don't you call rescue or an ambulance company?

The only time we use EMS is if it is an life threatening (SOB, decreased O2 sat, chest pain, ect) or res. is in danger of hurting self or others. Any other time we do our best to get them to the ER another way (van with a wheelchair lift or family member).

The reason this resident was going to the ER instead just getting a X-Ray was because this family is the sue happy type. The doctor has has had many problems with this family and I believe that he was covering his butt. We all have to walk on eggshells with this family because they like to cause trouble.

This is just one of the many little joys that comes with my job. Yes, I love my job, but one of these days all of this crap that I have to deal with is going to make me quit nursing all together.

Aww ....So sorry you had such a bad day.. Id love to tell you it won't happen again but........it will. In the mean time be good to yourself. Eat right get plenty of rest and exercise...everything you would tell your patient....It's easier to cope with stress when you are healthy but I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know.......HUGS
