Average Wait

I have wanted to be a nurse since the age of 12. I am now 25 and had to wait to enter a RN program. Does anyone know the average wait to begin a nursing program?

Specializes in Assisted Living, Med-Surg/CVA specialty.

At my community college for ADN, I waited 2 years before I even started the program... It's a 2 year program, btw.

I have had to wait two years, three if you count the year I had to take my prenursing classes before I could even apply anywhere.

two year wait list.... private college. Completed first year of pre-reqs with a 4.0 and I was bumped into the next start class after only a year. It was HIGHLY competitive and the highest GPA's took the next slot over those ahead of them on the list. Our board pass rate was the best in the area.

Specializes in LTC/Skilled Care/Rehab.

I haven't heard of any schools in my area that have a wait to get in. It all depends on if you get accepted or not. I got wait listed to a school, but if I don't get in off the wait list this year I have to reapply for next year. Good luck!

Including pre-req's 2 years.

Specializes in ICU, Med-Surg, Post-op, Same-Day Surgery.

I would think that it depends a lot on where you are and what pre-req's you have completed. I'm decided to be a nurse in December 06, started pre-req's January 07, applied to nursing school in February, was accepted in March, will finish my pre-req's August, and start nursing classes the last week of August. But, I already have an undergraduate degree, and there are 4 total BSN programs in my city. So, with those factors in mind I would think that around here there isn't much of a waiting list at any school. However, in another state where I wanted to apply it would have been probably 1.5-2 years before I could start nursing classes. Depends a lot on where you are, I think. Good luck!
