Average pay for a new RN in KCMO????

Check into Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill. They have a new grad residency program there.

I hear they start off with approximately 21.00+ hr plus a differential for nights/weekends.

Yeah, most hospitals around the KCMO area starting pay for new grads is around low to mid 20's range. This is a being a staff nurse. I believe the HCA hospitals start off about the same. The difference is in the differentials, benefits and experience.

If you are looking for something based on pay alone, I would try the VA. They typically start off a little more than most of the area hospitals.

For the Kansas side, I hear KU might be slightly higher.

KU starts at 21.50/hr but night shift diff is the highest in the area, I believe, at an extra 6.50/hr.

The VA is pretty hard to get into unless you have some sort of military background/experience.

I graduated with a few people who got hired straight into the VA without military or nursing experience.

It was a long lengthy process, but from what I hear from them it was worth it in terms of pay and benefits.

But that's been over 3 years ago, so things may have changed......

Yeah, re-reading, I think I might have mis-typed what I really meant to say. It's not necessarily the experience per se but the ability to navigate the system. People with former military or government experience knew the right keywords on their resumes to put in, etc. Although I believe former military service can bump you to the front of the line because their application/hiring system is based off of points.

Anyway, the only people from my class that even got interviews with the VA were former service members. But our school only offered psych as a clinical there so it might be different if you're doing medical clinicals there through your school.

I heard this to, my Biology teacher said that many hospitals will start requiring that their nurses have BSN, and apparently KU is the first in this area to do. He said it has something to do with what level the hospital is and the KU is the top rated Burn Center in the area.
