Are LPN allowed to work in...

Can a LPN work in speciality nursing like OB/GYN, cardio etc or do you have to be a RN to do anything besides regular bedside?

In some places yes, in some places no. It just depends on the facility. Sorry I don't have more info than that! :)

Specializes in ER (My favorite), NICU, Hospice.

I work ER....but I am also in the LPN to RN bridge program.

I worked as an LPN in gyn/post partum. We carried our own patient load, did our own meds, assessments, etc. We reported to the unit charge nurse.

So, it depends on the facility and their interpretation of an LPN's scope of practice.

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

I work in the OR. It all depends on what the facility allows.

But i will say, and i'm not meaning to put a black cloud over anything, but there's usually quite a few RNs that don't like LPNs being in a specialty area, and make that known frequently. Not meaning to be negative, it's just something to prepared for.

Specializes in CCU,ICU,ER retired.

I have worked in critical care for over 20 years but I am getting ready to work in ER some hospitals will only take you into a speciality area if you have experience. I started out as a CCU Tech before I went to school so I had a job when I got out, but even that doesn't matter sometimes. I knew a CCU tech that went to school and the place that hired me wouldn't hire her.So who knows
