Does anyone know where to find the approved standardized procedures for RNs on the TN BON website? I am specifically trying to find if RNs are allowed to flush small-bore pleural drainage catheters (not the traditional large-bore chest tubes). I have left a message withe BON but thought I would check here to get other's input. I might add, this is in pediatric patients.

Tennessee Board of Nursing does not have a list of approved standardized procedures; it is the nurses responsibility to demonstrate competence in practice and in performing a procedure. Instead, TN BON utilizes a Framework for Decision Making Nursing Activities to guide the nurse in performing/not performing nursing activities--- see pg. 19 + 20 , 2018 Tennessee Board of Nursing Position Statements
Definition of nursing found here:
2018 Tennessee Code Title 63 - Professions of the Healing Arts;
Chapter 7 - Nursing, ;Part 1 - General Provisions
§ 63-7-103. "Practice of professional nursing" and "professional nursing" defined.
TN BON Rules and Regulations found here:
1000-01Rules and Regulations of Registered Nurses
See sections : 1000-01-.14 Standards of Nursing Competence
My PA employer had the same question; PA BON does not keep list of RN nursing procedures either, nurse needs to demonstrate competence.
So education dept. did literature review, created policy and procedure with RN's inserviced in flushing small-bore pleural drainage catheters and those performing task had 1 observational visit with nurse educator (who had been educated/perform flush at our local hospital) while RN performed task, therfore demonstrating competency with procedure check off kept in employees file.
Education dept. did the same thing first time with wound vacs, LVAD, PleurX drain.
