applying to nursing school

Published

i currently have 33 hours completed and after this semester is done i'll have 47 hours completed. my current gpa is a 3.4. does anybody reccomend any nursing school that i can apply to? i'll have all my sciences done except for anatomy this semester. i know each nursing school is different that's why i get such a headache trying to figure out schools i can apply to before wasting my money. or should i put off nursing school for another semester to boost my gpa since i know it's not the greatest.

i understand that everyone is going to have a different opinion, but i would say go for it b/c i don't know how much your gpa would change w/33 hrs and then later you're up to 47 hrs. i would suggest calculating your gpa based on grades that you will hypothetically make this semester. for example, if you're going to make straight A's this semester, then calculate your new gpa w/all A's. if the difference is not that much then definitely go ahead and apply. as far as which nursing schools i would recommend, i think that they're all pretty decent. check out their websites to see their requirements, deadlines, etc. ask around for their average gpa's. i don't know what the consensus on average gpa is.

i know TWU says that the usual gpa they accept is around a 3.7. and i heard from a friend that even community colleges accept not lower than 3.7 too. i'm new to this site and i gotta say it's pretty awesome.

some schools base admittance on factors other than GPA such as previous degrees, experience, interviews, entry exams.

are you looking at ADN or BSN?

i'm doing BSN nursing. i don't have experience either. that's why i'm thinking about just taking an extra semester to do some volunteering and to boost up my gpa

If it were me, I'd take the chance and apply to at least one nursing school (whose prereqs I could complete by the deadline of course). Worst case scenario by doing this: You are out the application fee to one school. Best case scenario: You get accepted and on your way to a BSN. Also, if you make As in all of your classes you are taking this semester, that 3.4 is going to go up.

Also keep in mind that if the average accepted GPA is 3.7, that means there are some 4.0s that got accepted but also some 3.4s that did too. Take everything you hear about minimum gpa with a grain of salt. Most of it is only rumor.

thanks soo much!! maybe there is hope afterall :)
