Applying for jobs

I haven't even started my classes yet, but I've been looking in the paper, online, etc. for jobs already, just to see what's out there. A couple of the smaller places listed in the paper say to apply in person. If an ad lists and address for their location, I'm going there!! I've heard of people walking in and getting hired on the spot, and I know (at least around here) they are desperate for nurse assistants. I'm gonna be in their face!! LOL ( I think it's only the big corporate places that may MAKE you apply online)

MrsRiasinkain said it right but if you want to call them,some will even tell you that it takes like 2weeks before you hear from them so if you ned to work so bad,i'll say its better to apply in person cos you never know what God has in stock for you.goodluck.

I don't entirely trust online applications. The hospital where I work at now does online as well as in person applications. I applied online, didn't hear anything for quite some time, then went in person to fill out an application and it turns out they never received the one I sent online. In person I think is so much better because it gives you the chance to make a good first impression on a potential new employer. You can't get that over the internet. If you have already applied online I would give it about 2 weeks and then call just to confirm that they did receive it and to see if the position is still available. That shows them you really are interested in the position. Good luck!

Okay, so I'm a little upset...

As I've said before in this post, I've applied to a few local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. I filled out an application on Tuesday at an assisted living facility that I would LOVE to work at---and I was really excited because I got a call back the next day from the ADON...my interview was yesterday. The interview went really well, (at least I thought), and it seemed like I got the job. They just informed me that I needed to get my nurse assistant license before I could start orientation, and told me to call them back when I mailed out the application for my license. (In New Hampshire, you are 'licensed', not certified--and you have to send out the app to be licensed, and it takes anywhere from 1-2 weeks before you even get your license--kind of a pain in the butt!)

Anyway, I called them back today because I sent out the app for the license in the mail today. I spoke with the ADON and told her this, and she said to definitely keep in touch and let her know when my license number is posted on the Board of Nursing website, and then they will do my criminal backround check and take it from there. I really thought I got the job, but now I'm not so sure. I know that they don't need my Nursing Assistant license # to run a backround check, because we even had to do 2 different backround checks while I was in class. So I'm wondering if maybe they changed their minds about hiring me? The reason why I think this is because 2 of my friends are nursing assistants in my state, and they told me that you have at least 120 days to work in a nursing home/or assisted living facility before you get your license, and I also read this on the NH Board of Nursing website.

I'm really upset. Should I call them back once I receive my license #, or should I just wait for them to call me? I don't want to seem pushy if they don't even want to hire me..

I am not a CNA, but as far as jobs go, I would take them at face value. Why would they bother to ask you to call back if its just going to be a waste of time for them? They want to hire you and you should call them back when you get your license #.

Definitely call them once you get your number. If they weren't interesting in hiring you, I doubt they would have bothered telling you to keep in touch.

for me.i'll tell you to look for other places that you can start with till you get your licence then by then if you still want to give them a call cos you like the place then you can do so.You cant just fold your hands and wait till 120 days if i got it right.Goodluck Dear! Azor- It's not 120 days until I can get my license, at least I hope not! I should be getting my license within the next week or so....but in N.H., you have 120 days to work in a nursing home or hospital, then you have to have your license by then. You're right though, I should definitely be following up on the other places I applied, because I'm a little nervous that this job won't follow through.

Thanks for everyone's replies- I'll definitely call them back once I get my license, but I'll also be applying to other places in the meantime.
