Hey there guys. I just started Kaplan about 2 weeks ago and so far learned many great strategies. I took my Diagnostic Test and scored a 63% which is considered borderline. Kaplan suggests to maintain a 65% or more. The program has some great review online, question trainer and qbank, but I am scared that Kaplan may not be enough to just pass the NCLEX. I take my Readiness Test this Saturday, but I do not feel so ready for this exam or the NCLEX.
I am thinking of doing Suzanne's First Tip. I hear it takes a month and I wish I did it sooner, but if it helps people pass then I am going to do it. Does anyone think this is a good idea for me?

Suzanne's first tip takes as long as you allocate to it, can be done sooner than a month but longer than a week

I'm taking Kaplan and I think with the level of difficulty of the questions and the strategies, it does give a pretty good NCLEX preparation. I won't be able to confirm that for sure though until after I test next week. I think it also depends on the person and the way they utilize a review course. Some ppl have said that they have passed with Kaplan and others have said that they have failed. I'm done with all of the qbank and qtrainers so I'm just ready to get this beast of a test over with. Oh, my diagnostic was a 62% and my readiness was a 68%. As far as suzanne's plan, there are many different posts on here with ppl who have used it and recommend it. When are you looking to test?

So I just took my Nclex RN today. I took the Kaplan course. A couple of my classmates took the course earlier than expected and were pleased with it because it taught them test taking skills. I on the other hand already had good test taking skills so I wasnt that interested at first. The school I attened actually ended up paying for Kaplan so I was up for anything. I thought the actuall course was ok. Did well (like mid to high 60's) on both the entrance and readiness test. I completed all of the question trainers. Did better on some than others. I also did like 80% of the question bank. I didnt do that well when I began doing the questions but ended up scoring in the 70's towards the end. One of my friends also had a Kaplan CD that had a comprehensive exam on it that was 180 questions. I made something like a 75 on that test. I walked out of the exam today I felt completely stunned! I felt like I guessed on all the questions. I knew what the question were asking, I knew the disease processes, ect but none of the answers that popped into my head were anywhere to be seen. I only had 75 questions so that has added to my anxiety. I will be able to see my results at midnight tonight EEK!!!! I also used Nclex flashcards, a Nclex boardgame, and saunders. I dont know if anyone can really prepare themselves for what happens during that test! Good luck :)

my friend reviewed under kaplan.. she passed the first time she took the exam. just do ur part and surely ull pass as well.. ^_^
hi msjackson8. well everyone has told me the question trainers and qbank are the best compared to a lot of the prep programs that are out there. many tell me that the prep trains you for the nclex and is quite similar. but im not sure kaplan alone going to do it for me. i think the review online and review of questions are great, but the course book sucks a lot and I prefer Saunders because it is more detail. I take my Readiness this Saturday, but I havent recieved my ATT yet, but im hoping to test by March. If I do Suzanne's plan I hope I am going to have enough time to complete the first tip then subscribe to the rest of the program.
I dont know... that is my plan so far. what do you guys think?
thank you newnurse007 for the advise. and good luck. i know i just got to keep on studying. i have the saunders review book, the q&a book, hogan book, and tons of practice questions from a variety of places. I just got to keep at it. How many questions a day did you do? they say not to do more than 200, but someone told me to do 200 a day? so far i have done 50ish trying to work my stamina.
thank you touchmenot_8870 for the advise. i read many post that say kaplan alone will do it even if you score low on the qbank and questions trainer. im just not so sure if i should also include saunders into the mix to help me review the content more.
At first I started with like 25 questions a sitting and only did like 100 questions a day. Then I gradually built up my stamina to doing the max of 50 questions in a sitting. I would take breaks and what not and probably did like 150-200 questions a day. Then that even became really easy. The last week and a half of studying I could sit down and do like three or four 50question tests in a row. When I went in to take my test I was prepared to sit and do 180 questions without a break. I think that you should do as many questions a day that you can. Not just doing the tests but going back and reading all the rationals and really understanding the material. That takes longer than just taking the tests. I actually sat down and went over every single question in the question trainers on Kaplan and wrote down everything (to make it stick in my head) that I didnt know. It took a long time but I learned a lot! P.S. My results still arent posted grrrrr!!!!

I am taking Kaplan right now. I just completed the Readiness Test. I need more review if I want to be more sucessful on the NCLEX. I am planning to use Saunders to review. Kaplan was helpful for just the Review of Content, Review of Questions, Test Taking Strategies, Decision Tree, Question Trainer, and QBank. They are all great so far, but I prefer a better course book for review and im a visual learner so im also using other illustrated sourse. If you want to talk about Kaplan we talk here.

I took Kaplan and I failed. I don't think it's the program because I learned a lot of useful tips that i will continue to use as a study. It all depends on how you learn.
