Nah, she didnt forget. As once she walked out she was walking around with nothing to do at the time??????? Going back to nurses station.

I wouldn't delegate to her anymore...

Already I find it hard to delegate but yah I agree NO MORE. I guess youlearn who is more genuine :wink2:

I have found many times that when somebody asks me if I need help, the answer is expected to be NO!:roll Thats probably what happened in your case. The person just wanted to look good for offering!

I just wanted to find out if this situation that I am gonna mention ever happened to them and what did they ever do about it?

Okay, last night it felt like I was busy no chance to sit down except for breaks. One of the nurses started shift and came up to me and ask 'Do you need any help'. I thought well since you asked yah because I was running a little bit behind schedule. So I asked her to do something for me related to IVAB. We both go in and I thought she was gonna do it for me since she asked if I needed help. Nope she just checked the drug and sign the label and left instead of hanging it up for me. I was like :trout: :smackingf WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED.

So in the end I was just flabbergasted and amazed. So I said to myself if that is ever to happen again. I might just get that person just to do my vitals rather than do IVAB. I just saw this coworker in a different light. I am not one to say anything right away. However, if I am to help anyone out I go forth and help them out.

So that is my beef, truly irrated me. Usually I rather do my tasks on my own without no help. Thinking I am getting some assistance was gonna be a relief, that wasnt to be, pfftt.

Yep, yep, it has happened to me several times.

One particular nurse has a habit of asking me if I need help. If I tell her yes and tell her what I need, she never helps. I have decided she does it just to take glee in the fact I am behind schedule. I decline her help now.

Another nurse tries to help, but never does what I need. For example, I can say those two patients both need labs at the same, give her the labels and tubes and she never does it.

You eventually learn who you can trust for help and who you can't trust. I never delegate something to someone without checking to see if they did it or not. Got to cover your butt :trout:

I've been in situations where I've been running my butt off (will that get censored here?) and so-called workmates have been sitting at the desk. I vowed I'd never do that but I also don't want to be seen as smug if I offer to help someone.

Yeah, it's happened to me...my ANM asked if there was anything she could do for me since I was so busy. It was 2155 and I had 3 pts who still had 2100 meds due (we are and hour before to an hour after for "on time"). I said, "Yeah, you could give this pt her 2100 meds for me". She said, "Okay, I'm going to go smoke. If you haven't done it by the time I get back, I'll do it." So fo course, I did it, and they were late, and I was mad, because why offer to help me if you're not going to? When she got back from smoking, she said, "You already gave those meds? Why? I said I would do it." I said "they were going to be overdue. I finished what I was doing, then I gave them." Her response? "What's the big deal if they're overdue? It wasn't anything life-threatening." :smackingf If it was something life-threatening, wouldn't I be there in the first place???????? She knew I was pissed about that! I can't wait till we go smoke-free in January...or rather, I can...I dont' want to have to deal with grouchy coworkers and grouchy pts! But I do like the smoke-free idea!

I always offer to help, and then I do it. People rarely ask me to do anything hard when they know I'm helping. If they are busy and have three things to do, they will usually give me the easiest. But I know who to watch out for. There are certain people who will ask for help, and then sit down at the station while I do their work. Nope, sorry! That's not what it's about! I have a pretty good team...and I like it when we all work together! It makes everyone's job easier!

Grrrr. Some nurses can't spare the time to take a meal break. Others can't even take the time to go to the loo and yet others nick out for a smoke.

What gives? We have a few smokers on the ward where I usually work and they go out three or four times a shift for a cigarette break. They're usually gone 5 or 10 minutes. I wonder how well it would be accepted if I decided to sit down, off the ward, for a coffee break as often as that? Grrrrr. :angryfire :angryfire
