Any Suggestions?

Hi all. I am currently an RN working at a local hospital on the Neuro Unit. I have been a nurse since 2009 so not long but have had a lot of different experience on that floor that I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else. I have a 6 month old at home and a husband that also works rotating shifts. It is becoming increasingly difficult to coordinate care for our baby and I think she needs more stability. I currently go between nights and days back and forth. I am trying to find a position that would still involve working with the hospital patients but with a more consistent schedule M-F. Because of daycare I would need something that was just during the week and not weekends and holidays. Anyone have any suggestions of where to go or what kind of positions to look for? Thanks

    i'm not sure in the hospital. have you considered outpatient surgical centers?

    Surgery units run more regular hours, Mon. to Fri., 6:00ish to 5:00ish, no weekends no holidays. Pre-op, OR, or PACU . They can make you be on call. And they frequently run late, you "should" be home by 3:00 but surgeries are running late and you could be there several hours longer.

    Free standing out patient surgery clinics usually have better control over running too late and don't require on call time.

    GI clinics are a good option.

    You might hear they are tough to get into, who doesn't want better hours, but what do you have to lose by applying?

    Could you do day surgery? Our nurses work M-F.

    Utilization review, though I think you would need more than 2 yrs to succeed at this job. IMO, anyway.

    GI at our hospital is 8 hr M-F

    Not sure what else they offer at your facility.
