Any Ideas

Published

Hi,

I'm required to do a final report for my writing class and by mid September I have to figure out what my report will be based on. My report has to be related towards a topic that involves my major which is nursing. I have been searching and I am having difficulty coming up with a topic. I want something unique, but it must have legit academic sources. I was wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions on any good topics or maybe tell me of any websites that can help me out. :thankya:

What about the possible diseases in the contaminated water from the hurricane?

Drug compliance in the elderly and what can be done to help solve this problem

Over the counter medications and the risks

I'm sure all of those have many online resources.

I always say, PKD! (Polycystic Kidney Disease)

It is such an common disease, yet so little people know about it.

I did a research paper on males in the nursing profession, the kind of issues they face and how they are similar and also unique to what women face when they enter a male dominated field. Actually, the paper was on men in female dominated careers with focus on nursing and early childhood education. The paper netted me a 100%. I could have just done it on nursing though, and had enough information. I could have also focused on how the female dominated industry of nursing, like all female industries, is devalued as a whole, and net lower wages and do not attract large amount of men, and therefore we are starting to see shortages due to woman having more access to other fields. For example, an anesthetics nurse can do the same thing as an anesthesiologist, but makes waaay less money for the same skills.

You could also write about how the nation wide nursing shortage is affecting healthcare. The recent Katrina catastrophe seems to highlight this shortage, and I am sure you could find a good quote or two from recent news stories.

While all the other topics are awsome, I am more drawn to males and the stereotypes of nursing etc. too. :)

While working on my M.Ed., I had to write a thesis relevant to my job as a school nurse and education. Since my son was a wrestler and I worked with the wrestling team I chose to write about Safe Weight Management in Illinois High School Wrestlers. It was interesting research and great nursing involvement as I educated the wrestlers and their parents on food plans and the drastic effects of cutting weight on the human body. Just an idea as I, too, wanted a unique topic.
