does anyone have any ideas about where else to apply for a part time job. I went to the hospitals in my area and to the nursing homes they all pretty much say the samething. Either we dont have anything right now or you have to have completed your first semester of clinicals first. I am in an LPN program but I'm just in my first semester and we dont even start clinicals until November. I really need some kind of income right now to help pay for bills. I put in for phlebotomy, unit secetary and transportor. Now I'm out of ideas. I even put an application in at walmart. Any sugguestion would greatly be appreciated.

I'm in an RN program, not LPN, but I had the same problem. I had to have finished my first semester before getting a job in a hospital. If that's your goal, then go for it, but if you need to earn $$ now, all I can suggest is picking up a waitressing job or something in the meantime to tide you over.
Once you've finished your first semester you can send out your resume and cover letters to hospitals and then follow them up with phone calls one week later. Have letters of rec ready to go. GOOD LUCK!

I would also look around your school for student jobs. You won't be paid that well, but there are usually jobs that will be accomadating no matter what your schedule is.

I was running into the same problem, I called every hospital but none would take me because of my lacking clinical experience. Finally, I got a per diem job at a psychiatric hospital as a mental health counselor. If you don't mind working with psych patients it's a good route to go, the pay is good and they don't seem to care about clinical (at least in my experience) They even thought me how to take vitals Good Luck :)

Of course, a job in the health care field would be ideal, for the experience you'll gain, but if you are looking to make some money (you mentioned walmart), I would find a busy restaurant and become a waitress. The amount of money I make in three shifts is carrying me through. If you haven't got any experience, aim for a chain, as they generally have fairly good training and seem to be more willing to hire people with no experience. Try places like Red Lobster and Olive Garden. Quite honestly, I am kind of worried about taking a CNA job in January, though I know I really need to for the experience, because I'll be making about half of what I do as a waitress.

Edited to add: the schedules are generally VERY flexible, too.
Thanks for the great ideas. I have a friend who works at one of the hospitals here and she's going to talk to some people there and see if she can help me get on sooner. My hubby finially got a break in his job and he should start making more money in 2 wks. So I think I can hold out for a little while. Thanks again for all the good ideas.

Yeah, Just search for jobs that are hiring in the restaurant business if you want some thing quick or part time. Waitressing or even working at mcdonalds it doesn't hurt to give it a try..
