ANP's in the ER

Hi everyone. I'll be starting the Adult Nurse Practitioner program in August and I was wondering can ANP's work in the ER? I know do know FNP work there because I work with them. Thanks in advance for the info.

I believe they do. Do they do nearly the same as the ER docs? In Hawaii, I don't hear much of nurse practitioners in ER's or hospitals in general. The only FNP i've worked for as a student aid was in the community college health center. Then again, Hawaii is usually slow in "keeping up" with the mainland advances, which may be because of political reasons. I've been living in Hawaii my whole life by the way, local boy I am.

I can speak to this at least in my area - central IL. I'm an adult health CNS with 10 years experience as a staff RN and 2 years as an APN (nephrology). I haven't been able to get back to the ER unless I want to do another peds APN certification.

I did a lot of clinical time in the ED with the FNPs there. They both saw a LOT of kids--a lot of the routine AOM type stuff. Depending on the size of the ED you might be more useful with that peds certification also.

We have all FNPs working in our ER. We get many peds cases, thus creating the need for that scope as well. As with others, I think you need to get Peds certified probably.

Wouldn't becoming a ACNP qualify you already to work in the ED?

I know all the state to state, hospital to hospital laws and regulations vary here, there and everywhere...
