I don't! We never had to learn them all, we just learned about them and the primary, secondary (pleated sheet/helix), tertiary, etc. shapes, peptide bonds, enzymes, and stuff like that. Do you have to learn the 20 types?
Here's an essential amino acid mneumonic I found:
Essential Amino Acids
PriVaTe TIM HALL (you can abbreviate PVT.)
Phe, Val, Thr, Trp, Ile, Met, His, Arg, Leu, Lys
Also:
"PVT. TIM HALL always argues, never tires":
Phe
Val
Thr
Trp
Ile
Met
His
Arg
Lue
Lys
- Always argues: the A is for Arg, not Asp.
- 'Never tires': T is not Tyr, but is both Thr and Trp.

Thank you! We have to be able to recognize them and name them...in addition to the other stuff you listed

That is pretty much how I learned them as well, also I just kept writing them down over and over again and even now (1 year later) I remember them all....lol!
