I am getting ready to start an accelerated program for a BSN. It has been 8 years since I graduated from college with a degree in Nutrition. I can get a second BS in nursing in one year of intense study. The main difference this time is that I am a single mother of three little kids. Can I do it? Anyone out there done it before me? Do you have any suggestions/helpful hints? I don't know if I have it in me but I really want it and I know that nursing is the perfect fit for me.

When there's a will, there's a way. I think you're realistic enough to know it's probably going to be the toughest thing you've ever done. Just keep your eye on the goal, take it one day at a time and if you want it bad enough you'll do it.
Good luck to you.
Oh, and yes, you are completely nuts. But aren't we all. Don't let that stop you. :rotfl:

You can do it. If you have solid support and someone to take care of your kids while you are in school and clinicals, it will be much easier.

nursing is a crazy career choise anyway, but it is also one of the most fullfilling and rewarding jobs(lives) you can have. i applaud you for taking this step. i had 1 child and a husband when i went to nursing school and it was hard, but not impossible. i will keep you in my prayers
but when jesus beheld them, and said unto them , with men this is impossible; but with god all things are possible. matthew 19:26
Thanks for the encouragement. I am sure that I will be coming back for more encouragement especially as things get more and more crazy. Thanks again!

I believe you should give yourself a huge pat on the back for pursuing it.. I got my BSN with a small baby and am trying to get my MSN with two small children., it is tough, but will be well worth it. Tackle one task a day at a time, and utilize support from friends and family for help with your children. You can do it! :balloons:

You can do it!! I went back to school when my daughter was 8mts old and I also had a 4 yr old son. I will graduate with my BSN in December of this yr. It is tough, but if you have a good support system you can definitely make it through. Just keep your eye on the big picture, and know that once you graduate you will have a career that's rewarding, make a nice living, and will offer you the flexibility that you need as a mother. Good luck!!

I do hope your children are old enough to take on some time alone or you have childcare arranged.
