Hello everyone! My name is Francisco Medina and I reside in Houston, Texas. I'm 19 years old and I'm eager to go into nursing school and I'm just looking for any recommendations from previous applicants, current nursing students, or anyone who wants to chyme in about how to become more competitive.
The only degree under my belt is an associates in arts degree from the dual enrollment program from my high school. I turned down a university opportunity because they wanted me to stay for a 5 year honors program before I could do the 2 upper-level nursing. So I decided to finish up my pre-requisites at my local community college, save money, and apply to any of the nursing programs available here in Houston.
My Overall GPA of 82 hours is 3.512
Pre-Req GPA is 3.635
Nursing Core GPA is 3.840
I've volunteered at HMH for over a year as a Patient Transporter and also in the IMU
I'm currently working to get a CPR certification through the hospital.
I recently took the TEAS VI yesterday
Overall: 86
Reading: 80.9
Math: 96.9
Science: 91.5
English: 66.7
Percentile: 96
I was upset because the grammar really brought me down but I guess I was content with the 86 OVR and the 96 percentile.
The schools I'm interested in from descending order are : UT Health School of Nursing, UTMB, TWU.
I am yet to take the HESI A2 by the end of the month, but should I be looking at retaking the TEAS? What would make me more competitive? I guess it depends on every school because for TWU you get the extra points for having a 4 year degree.

You have answered your own question. Consult with the school(s) you're interested in. They're the only ones who will know if you're competitive or how you can improve your chances.

I'll just add that what you've done by your age is awesome!
