I see so many ppl wanting to go to bmcc, im just wondering why. Did someone tell u they have a nice program? If so, who told u? Tell me why u want to go to bmcc.
ill start! ill be replying to my own post. hehhe.
i went to bmcc because it was the closest school from my house. i didnt have anybody talk to me about which school to pick. it didnt occur to me that boards like this exist and i could have gotten some advice.

I work F/T in mid-town and take classes in the evening. Would never get to any of the outer bourough CC's in time for a 5:30 pm class. But i can easily get to BMCC from mid-town.
hi nycnurse2b!
i see ur name in the boards a lot so i know a few things about u :) . i think its great that ur heavily pursuing nursing and doing a quite abit of research abt it too. a bit shocked that u based ur decision on location (after all that research?)
i understand that u have to work too. i guess u can do so little when u have to pay bills hehhe. what classes are u taking?

I am starting at BMCC in january. I work F/T on UWS and live in Queens. None of the other Community Colleges offer the courses on the weekends. I can only do weekends and when it comes to clinical lectures I can handle two evenings. They seem to be the only CC making an effort to meet the needs of full time workers. Got to those bills so I got to work. Good luck to you guys!!
thanks eroynurse. i see that the convenience for working ppl has become a factor for attending bmcc.
i guess u know about the horror stories about the gpa. so make sure u dont get anything less than an A on all ur courses. i dont know why i am offering u advice if ur not necessarily seeking it. but i guess just so u know.. so here it goes (more advice! hehe)....
i think its great that bmcc has evening and weekend classes. Pre-clinical subjects, (bio, math, english etc) i dont think u will have a problem. But once u get to clinical courses, thats when the headache and heartache begins. the amount of topics to cover is just too enourmous that u will eventually need to spend more time doing schoolwork. a lot of the topics, u would have to read on ur own, almost teaching urself because the professors will not hand it to u. they may have an evening program but theyre not necessarily supportive of students working full time. so, u might wanna plan ahead if and when that time comes. im just telling u the way it is. goodluck to u.:)
thanks for the info but who said life was meant to be easy? I've always learned life is what we make it. I know its going to be a difficult program but as long I am determined, stay focus and work hard, then I will be able to make it. My plan is to focus on my pre-clinicals first. I already have eng 101 and mat 104. I will take chem 121(pre for A&P 1) and Psy100 in jan. I am just taking one semester at a time. When its time for the Clinicals, I will cross that bridge when I get there. If I spend too much time worrying about that GPA, then I will never get anywhere.
A positive attitude in life, many times makes our lives just a little easier. I checked online to see what textbooks are required for the course and I am reading up on some of the material (for chem), also bought A& P made easy just to get used to the terms. That way I am not lost before I start.
Concerning the prof. I agree some of them can be selfish, but then again we are the ones that want to get to the otherside. So we have to make an extra effort to do a little more research on our own.
Hang in there!! I know I will regardless of who the prof. is.

I think this is a very positive way to think about it and you will go far with your outlook. You will hear A LOT of complaining at BMCC about how the program is not letting people in and why they are making the GPA so high, yada, yada, yada.
The school is not setting the GPA, its what the students are getting that sets it. If none of the students were getting 3.6s the preclinical GPA would not be that high. Quite frankly, I would want a nurse that excelled and knew his or her stuff and not one that skated or cheated by.
My suggestion is to research what you need on your own and not listen to the complainers. Work hard and take advantage of the resources that are available.
The NUMBER 1 suggestion I have for anyone in this program, especially in the pre-clinical phase is not to complain, but just do the work and keep your eye on the prize. From what I understand it only gets more difficult in the clinical phase.

hey guys i am finished and graduating this fall 2004. paper work not doner yet but i just finished my last nursing final meaning i went through all the hell. lol.
my view on bmcc? all nursing schools will be hard. i got into the program 2yrs ago with a 3.56 gpa and i heard last semester the lowest gpa that got in was a 3.7! in my opinion, i don't think it's hard to get in but harder to really stay in the program. what i love about bmcc is that they offer different schedule programs for people who are currently working and what not.

Congratulations on a job well done. Its good that you stuck in there. Nothhing in life is easy and when we want good results, we must work twice as hard. So are you getting ready for the Exam? Anyway you have done the most difficult part. Congratulations again and good luck!!!!!:balloons:
