ahh nclex!

AHH, I graduated in May and my school use to have the HESI exams and I did terrible on them, yet somehow I always got at least a A or B in all my nursing classes. I just finished my kaplan course and I am doing HORRIBLE, i mean i don't even think the word horrible describes how bad i am doing. I haven't gotten anything higher than a 53% on their question trainers and I have only done one QBank but that was a 50%. I mean is that 60-65% really obtainable for kaplan or do I just suck? I don't even know where to begin. Each question I get wrong I look up right away in my textbook and make a flashcard. I mean I know I need some content review but when I asked the Kaplan instructor she told me it wasn't realistic to sit there and read every page of a review book, and I sort of agree. I feel like doing questions gets me more exposure and will get me use to thinking like NCLEX. Am i doomed? Or do you think it is too soon for me to tell? I appreciate ANY advice, i just really dont want to have to take NCLEX more than once. I haven't scheduled my exam yet because I am still waiting for my ATT, however, I don't want to take them all the way in August, but at this rate my confidence is going down and I just dont know. Anyone in a similar situation?

I wish I had some good advice. I was out of nursing for 6 years where I was a labor and delivery nurse for 10 years, because I became a teacher. Due to the economy I am going back to nursing. I had to retake the NCLEX. The first time I took it it was paper and pencil. I took it last weekend and left thinking there was no way I passed. Well, I did pass! It was hard. I studied by using the Hurst book and Saunders book. I did not do well on the questions and was only scoring about 60%. Just keep reviewing and know that you can do it. Good luck!

I just graduated in May and I went to an NCLEX review course that one of my teachers offered and in that she went over basic points and told us to do at least 100 questions in 100 minutes everyday. She said that if you get a 70% on almost all the sets of questions that you do then you are pretty much ready. She said to mark the ones that you guessed on so you can review those ones. She was a great teacher so I felt that from her I learned a lot and even more in her review class. I have some typed up notes that i took in her review class, if you want them PM me with your email address and I will email them to you.

Thats why I dont recommend to Kaplan review...because you do need a content review. It is very hard to remember everything you learned over nursing school. If you make a flash card for every question you get wrong, and you do enough practice questions, you will have a million flashcards.

The best advice I can give to anyone looking to pass the NCLEX the first time is do as many questions as you can. Do read over the answers wrong or right then do more questions, then more, then more, and more after that. It may sound crazy, but I did over 3,000 questions to study for the exam and I really feel it made a difference in my confidence. Dont get me wrong, when I got to the test I was still nervous, but I tried to tell myself "you did this 3,000 times, whats a few more?"

Also know 1.concepts, not every detail.

2.prioritization

3.saftey

and practice the select all that apply...every test is different, but there seemed to be a great deal of those.

Remember you didnt go to, and make it through, nursing school for nothing.

You have it in you to do this!! Prepare well and pretty soon you'll be writing R.N. after your name! :nurse:

Best of Luck to you! Cant wait for your I PASSED thread!

calm down...:) im also taking it in august so, i know how you feel. and honestly, you're doing a bad habit. don't an answer any tests if your not prepared to take it. think of those concepts that you are not familiar with and study them. i also suggest that you make a study plan and follow it. do test questions after you already know the contents of what you are studying. we can do this! have a peace of mind and focus! :nuke: its just you and the nclex for the whole 3months! also prioritize and make sacrifices... and if your burned out in the middle of this, pray a lot!:redbeathe good luck to us!:nurse:

If content is your weak area the HURST review is excellent. Good Luck and remember to RELAX it's going to be ok.

You mention that you don't want to go all the way out to August to take your test, but if you are not ready, you are not ready. Something I was told by a teacher years ago, "If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it over again?" Wise words. Better to schedule your exam giving yourself enough time. Or, if you approach your test date and you can see that your act is not together, reschedule. Because if you fail, you will be taking the extra time anyway. Good luck.

thanks everyone!

thanks everyone! i think i was just anxious and just needed confidence in myself.
