Thanks Suebird for routing the poster to the Agency Forum.
What are you looking for? To Travel? Work per diem? What state are you in?
I live in Central/Southern Illinois by Effingham. I will be graduating in July and was thinking about doing agency nursing. I am considering this because of the pay they offer. I just don't know as if a new grad that would be a good idea.

Yes but you will need to figure out the career path that you are interested in. For one you need to know whether you want permanent employment, temporary employment, or travel. You will also need to know what state you are interested in working in and you will definitely need to be licensed with a visa if you are foriegn in the state that you want to work in. After you get all this information together then you can decide. Most agencies are geared to states as opposed to a certain city but they will try and assist you if you are interested in a certain city as well. After all this is done then you can pick from an agency in that area or one that works all over the country. It also may take up to 2 weeks for them to zero in on a position in the needed area. Then post what general area you are in.
Not a good idea to do Agency Nursing as a new grad. Get your one year (minimum) of experience and then see how you feel.

I would have to agree with not doing agency till you have some experience under your belt. You are going to be expected to function as the other nurses at any facility and typically that is on the fly! I have spun myself into circles with 6 years of experience even...and wow, let me tell you...those are the days I consider not doing it! LOL! I am very glad I have the experience, and know who to talk to when and what to say to MD's or Management.
I say get some experience first, prefered preceptor program at a local hospital to gain experience with hospitals as an RN (quite different from student nursing).
Good luck! Good job on asking agency nurses about it too! That shows initiative and smarts!
