Advice

Hello everyone. I have been a adult cardiac nurse for two years now. I have always wanted to work in the adult ED. I work at a Level 1 teaching hospital and they currently have openings in the ED. Am I crazy for applying? Any advice, words of wisdom or caution?

Thanks all!!!

I think you have to be a little crazy to work ED, but that's the beauty. Go for it and good luck!

Hey!! I was in your situation a few months back with just about a similar background. If EC is what you have always wanted then go ahead and do it. I'm glad I did and I'm enjoying it so far. My shifts are definitely busier and the threat of violence is much higher, however, I'm learning so much. You'll probably feel like out of place in the beginning, but just stick through it. Pay attention to details and don't be afraid to ask questions.

I've only been pulled to my ED twice but I loved it. Go for it!

You have to be a little crazy to work ED 😉. It's a job requirement! Lol

No you're not crazy, go for it! I worked ICU-CCU prior to going to a level 1 ER and the ICU-CCU experience was invaluable as a precursor to ER nursing. Even a level 1 ER can range from boredom to shear panic. If you can handle cardiac, you can handle the ER. Good luck to you!

You can handle it, and if you know your stuff and fit in with the team your knowledge will be valuable to your coworkers. They will seek you out with questions you will know thanks to your prior specialty.
