Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I got offered two jobs, one working 12 hour days shifts at a hospital and another working 12 hour nights at a nursing home, BUT the nursing home is paying $5 more than the hospital. I have a 3 year old daughter and want to know pros and cons of working nights with children at home wither their dads. Please any advice would help, I don't know which one to choose! Which one would allow me to spend more time with my daughter?

Always start at the hospital.

Nights will def get you more time with your daughter but you'll be a total zombie. That's why your being paid 5$ more. I've only met 1 or 2 ppl that truly loved noc. Stay away; go to hospital you'll feel much better physically.

It's hard working nights with children. Technically you are home, but you are asleep while they are awake. Nursing homes pay more because you have a larger patient to nurse ratio and are on your own. You only deal with certain procedures and diagnosis at a nursing home. Your skills become rusty and you may not be in on the latest techniques or equipment. However, Nursing Home nurses are a special breed. They have more love and compassion than most. And, they have developed the skills necessary to deal with family members on an hourly basis. Good luck and follow your heart. $5 more an hour is a lot of money, but money doesn't tuck your child in at night.

Run to the hospital because your work load will be lighter and also less stressful, I know first hand that the Nursing home will wear you down and totally stress you out. Because your automatically a charge nurse, and having deal with families complaints and lazy Cna's, trusted me the extra $5 bucks an hr is NOT worth your insanity!
