I graduated nursing almost 2 years ago. It is only 7 months ago that I passed the NCLEX-RN. After applying for positions and getting either rejection or no answer, I have decided to look for opportunities in a far away state. What attracted about the job in that state is that for the experience required section they have listed no experience required. Where I live I have never seen an ad that says no experience required. They usually say experience preferred or less than 12 months experience required. My question is when I apply for this far away state job, should I use my friend's address who lives in that state by staying with her or should I just apply with my current address? I fear I may not be considered for the job if they know I live in a far away state. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Lying about your address will probably come back to bite you. Just put your current address down, after all your nursing license is registered in the state you currently live in (they would probably question "well how did you get a license there when you live here? Etc.) and on the application there is usually a question or two asking if you are willing to travel or relocate and I would mark that as yes. We recently moved cross country and that's how I filled out my apps though I had experience before we moved.
Thanks for the advice. I appreciate your comment. I will try to apply from my state and see how it goes. I did not mean lie about my resume. What I meant was should I move to my friend's house until I get my own place in that state. My license happens to be a compact state which is useful for that state. Now I think about it, it is probably not a good idea to move before I apply.

This is correct. Also, you are going to have to have a background check if you are hired and every application states if they find our you gave false information it is grounds for dismissal. never lie on an application!

Use your current address! I havent heard of anyone being discriminated against b/c of their address being in a far state. I also seen on this forum allnurses.com , people from many states apply to North Dakota and they get hired. If the hospital has need for nurses they will not care where you live currently b/c obviously if given the job you will move. And by th ad stating "no experience required" that means they really need nurses there and do not have a large pool of applicants to choose from. And you dont want background check to show that you gave them false info...that looks very bad.

I have two out of state interviews lined up, one 3.5 hrs away and the other 12 hrs away. The second one is going to pay for my travel expense for the interview. They want to find the best person for the job. As long as you can get a license in that state, they don't care where you are coming from. It is your problem to move there, not theirs.
Thanks everyone. I was thinking of moving to my friend's home. Then after I settle in that state I was going to apply. I did not know I can apply from where I am.
