Advice needed on continuing school

Hello all,

I am currently an LPN and on a wait list to start my LPN-ADN program. (I have finished all my pre-reqs for this school). It is a good program and I have been told I will start this coming winter or spring quarter. I have chosen this program not only because it has great reviews and is close by, but also because it is at a community college and so therefore much cheaper than continuing at my LPN school or any other would be. I think I will be able to get by paying for it out-of-pocket, no loans. That being said, I dont have A LOT of money, I just already have loans from previous schooling and don't really want anymore if I can help it. I have only been able to find PRN jobs, and I don't work a lot.

My plan is to continue on to get my BSN after I am done with my ADN, but I just want to get done quick! Feels silly writing this now, when I will probably be admitted to school soon, but my question is:

Should I go start at a school that will let me in now, and maybe be a little more expensive? Or should I stick with where I'm waiting at? My other option is to go to a pretty expensive hospital school that is close by, that has a direct to BSN option. I could do that but I think I have to take a few more pre-reqs before being let in. This would give me an advantage because I wouldnt have to take another break after getting my ADN from the school I'm waiting at now, but it would also cause me to have to work as an LPN for a little longer than I want to.

What have you all done?

Any advice is appreciated, and thanks for your help in advance :)

I am in a similar situation as you. I have taken out a lot of loans for my BA in psychology but I am changing my career to nursing. However, I didn't know whether I should go for accelerated BSN or Associates. I don't want to take out more loans but I eventually do want my BSN. So after much thought I am going to go for my BSN. Associates in nursing is my second option. Because eventually I will be going back for my BSN and I just want to get it over with (even if it is more expensive). But my advice to you is to do what is more convenient for you. As for me I just want to get my BSN and think about going back to school lol

Good luck to you, thanks for the thoughts :)

Are you able to work full time until you do get into the RN program? You would be making extra money and still working towards your goal. You working full time (not that working PRN wont do the same) might open up some doors that otherwise might not have been opened.

I wish you the best of luck!

The job I currently have does not use me that much. I have an interview for another PRN position coming up. I do not think I can work full time while in school, but before school, definitely yes. I just dont think working full time while I'm in school (to have money for school) would work. There is just not enough time in the day, unfortunately.
