Advanced degree

I am interested in going for my masters. I am not sure if I want to do NP or CRNA yet. Would it be beneficial to just get my MSN and then go back later for NP/CRNA? Im wondering if having my MSN would lessen the credits and such for the NP/CRNA program or if it would be a waste of time and money

    I would recommend against doing it. Advanced education (e.g. MSN) is designed for you to focus on something. Decide what you want to focus on -- and then do that. While it would hurt to take additional classes first, you will probably end up having spent extra money and time that you don't need to spend.

    Delay school until you know what it is that you want to focus on -- if you want to be efficient about it.

    I don't necessarily agree with the first advice. I completed my MSN in management and executive leadership, I really thought that was where my career should go. I realized in the two final classes, I would hate being in management. Wished I knew that earlier, but now I'm moving on towards NP. Guess I have some unnecessary credits, but I think all education can be beneficial, so my post masters NP certificate program will hopefully get me what I want. All I mean is waiting until your sure, doesn't always mean you're sure. Good luck.

    Is that what you were able to do? A post masters certificate as an NP? I am graduating next weekend with my MSN informatics and I love it, but there may be an opportunity if I had my NP as well. Wasn't sure what all was involved.
