Thanks, I was hunting everywhere for the answer and got a round about one from the school itself. And the BRN site only mentions the BSN not the MSN. Sorry for the dumb question.

That's because the state boards of nursing only concern themselves with licensure programs. Once you're licensed, the state boards really don't have any any say or care about further degree programs.

HOWEVER, in California, you need certain documentation and requirements with regards to BSN fulfillment in order to qualify for your PHN certificate. WGU does fulfill those requirements - California students have special things they need to do and special paperwork that needs to be filled out when you're doing your community health classes/practicum.

The California BRN does not accredit online nursing programs that originate in other states. For instance, the BRN isn't going to accredit Arizona State University's online MSN program or Texas Tech's online MSN program because these schools are governed by the BONs in their respective states. Since WGU's main campus is in Utah, the California BRN isn't going to accredit it.

Once you have licensure as an RN, approval by the BRN no longer matters if you decide to pursue further education. Just as long as the online nursing program is accredited by either the ACEN or CCNE, you are good to go.

Thank you all! I just did not want to waste money on a program that was not accredited. I am still in the process of researching different schools. So if any of you have feedback regarding this one, I would love to hear it!

The best thing for you to do is go on the websites of the school. WGU is accredited for their programs and graduates students all over the United States. They have ACEN or CCNE accreditation which is what is needed.

No State accreditation is needed for higher education programs for RNs. Only ACEN and CCNE like Klone and Commuter has already explained. I believe they are WGU students. Actual students can give you feedback more than anyone. You will not waste your money on WGU.

I will be starting pre-licensing with them myself and I can not wait. I hear alot of RNs are in their program and LOVE IT!

Go to their website and learn more about them. Online University | Online Degree Programs | WGU
