Adjusting Dogs to Night Shift

I just started my first nursing job about 2-3 months ago. They orient you to day shift first then will change you to nights if that is what you are working. I stated nights last week and officially came off of orientation last night. I am doing pretty well adjusting to nights (even though I'm pretty tired on my days off) but my two dogs are having a hard time. I'm still at home with my mom and she says that my dogs pace and wait by the front door all night. She has even invited them into her bedroom but they don't stay long. When I am off they are super glued to my side. How can I help them adjust easier? I've tried walking them before I leave for work but it doesn't seem to be helping.

When I worked nights I used to get up earlier and go for a run with the dogs. We would go 2 or 3 miles and by the time they got home and ate they would be exhausted and were calm all night. Perhaps walk them a little further so that they are tired out? They're sensitive creatures and are probably picking up on your anxiety also.

Maybe you could somehow make a 'smelly' item that they could snuggle with? Put some of your cologne on a worn nightgown and leave it for them?

Do you let them sleep in the room with you when you sleep during the day? My dog used to do the same thing, but she's so much happier when I let her sleep with me. She just wants to be near me part of the day, even if we're not doing anything.
