Specializes in Family.

Hi everyone,

I am a new grad FNP in CA and waiting for the BRN to process my paperwork. In the meantime I was thinking I could do some additional training to get certified in. Does anyone have any recommendations? I have lined up a training session for joint injections, suturing, I&Ds, etc. Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Specializes in Home Health, Primary Care.

I haven't graduated yet, but I'd recommend EKG (depending on who you'll be seeing the majority of the time). If you intend to work with mostly elderly, I'd throw in wound care certification as well (I'm biased because I already had that as an RN and I love wounds) ?

It really depends on where you will be working. Taking procedural classes is always a good idea. Most NP's coming directly out of school feel ill prepared with their education and training. Whatever field you are about to enter, buy medical school grade books and guidelines and really digest this information. This will put you light years ahead of any other new grad NP. I know, I did so.
