Accredited??

i was wondering if there is anyway that you could help me... I attended an international school in the caribbean and i completed a two year nursing program there and obtained my associates degree (ASN) but i still have not take my nclex yet, I have applied to CGFNS and its been 8 months since i graduated. I am beginning to think that my school is not accredited and i dont know what to do. Is there anyway that you can advise me on what i can do so that i am able to take the nclex. I would appreciate all your advice, hope to hear form you soon.

I would check with whoever is in charge of administering the nclex in your location.

what is CGFNS?

I know how to check if it is NLNAC accredited :

http://www.nlnac.org/Forms/directory_search.htm

And to check for ACICS accredited:

ACICS - Directory of Institutions

Not sure if that was what you were looking for...

As far as what to do if they aren't accredited, they really would have to be state approved in order to take your NCLEX. Accredited means that they are "better" than state approved schools, not always a requirement to take NCLEX in all states. I think in your profile it said you are in NY. Go to this website and scroll down to education requirements:

NYS Nursing:License Requirements

If you still are concerned you will have to contact the state board for sure.

Most international schools (including those in the Caribbean) are not accredited by US-based accreditation agencies (NLNAC, CCNE). So you will need to go through CGFNS to see if you are eligible to take the NCLEX examination and sit for a RN license in the US.

Many foreign-trained nurses I have worked with indicate that an 18-month wait for CGFNS review us not unusual.
