Accepted. Now What?

Hello All, feels so good to finally be on this side!:yeah:

I got my acceptance letter last week for Spring 2011. I will be attending an ADN program and I can't wait to get started.

So my question is, is there anything I can do to get ready? Anything in particular I should review or brush up on? Any books that you recommend in the mean time?

TIA

Dosage Calc. or Med Math...Fundamentals Success.

.review a and p and micro if u took it

also if u know anyone whos a nurse or cna ask them 2 help u learn how 2 do blood pressure and prac it so when u start school u will be a pro

AND try and relax if u can because once u start nursing school you will not have a life..

RELAX :) spend time with family, friends, work out, have fun, drink heavily...just enjoy life BEFORE nursing school. haha no really, nursing school isn't THAT bad but it is hard and you will want to be focused so do all your running around before you begin..maybe even save some money so you can not work or work less during nursing school.

buy a care plan book eventually..there is a good one that i got on amazon.com...private message me if you would like the info on it. but really, they have helped me SO much with 6 page care plans in 2nd semester of the ADN program.

brush up on your A&P...get familiar with basic med math...maybe even buy a test prep book that will show you some typical nursing style application questions.

good luck in the program ;) remember to stay organized, manage your time wisely, buy a planner and use it, get sleep, and have fun!!!!!

I'll be starting next week so I don't know if my advice will be all that helpful. I went out and bought a NCLEX book, Kaplan, I believe. I went through all the questions in the book and tried to answer correctly even though on about half the questions I have no idea what a particular medication or procedure does. It's helps to know how questions will be asked and that there may be more than one right answer. You need to know what the first priority is.

Second thing I did was download some podcasts for the ipod. They are free and I can listen to them while I run or workout. "The Nursing Show" and "EMS: Pharmacology for the Pre-hospital Professional" are my favs but you can download lectures from different universities in case you want a better understanding of something you learned in A&P. If nothing else, it will help you pronounce and hear new words a little better : )

Now what? Take a nice long vacation! :)
