2010 Accelerated BSN

Hi everyone! I just wanted to start this thread for people who will be applying for entry to accelerated BSN programs for the summer/fall of 2010.

I am a male from the east coast and am applying to quite a few schools just to make sure I will get in somewhere. My main worry is due to my poor GPA. I messed up in the beginning of my college career and as a result currently have a 2.5. The past year I have really picked up my grades and have got no less than a B in any of my courses. I am just HIGHLY worried that schools aren't going to really care about that.

I have worked as a transporter for over 4 years in 2 different hospitals so I have a lot of first hand experience and will also have good reccomendations. I also tried to explain a little why I fell so off track during my first couple of years at school.

I am hoping this fall semester will raise my GPA to at least a 2.75 (im hoping to get close to a 4.0) and the schools that I apply to in january and on will see a slightly better GPA, but i'm still applying to quite a few before then.

Within the next couple of months I will be applying to Quinnipiac, U of Rochester, MGH Institute, Columbia, and Virginia Commonwealth.

Do you think I have a chance at all?

I'm so worried, and am hoping for your input and also to hear how everyones doing with applying?

Thanks guys!

Hey, im patiently waiting to see if i got into UMSL's accelerated BSN program myself... as to ur question im not sure i can help because i dont know the lowest gpas the schools ur intested in will accept. I really only kno about UMSL, which has a 3.5 for transfer students and a 3.2 for those already holding a degree.... I think ur best bet is to ask those schools what ur chances are. I really hope u make it! Good luck!

Hey i love ur screen name lol!

I'm not sure if this is an option for you... but could you possibly retake a couple of the classes that are dragging your gpa down? Particularly if they are science/nursing related? Good luck in whatever you decide!!

Specializes in Critical Care, Postpartum.

Hey, I'm also applying for the Fall 2010 Accelerated BSN program for UMDNJ (University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ). For the program, you MUST have a minimum of 3.0 from the school where you received your undergraduate degree to even apply. Even if you have a 2.9999 results in an automatic rejection letter being sent. Doesn't matter if you have all A's in the required prerequisite courses and have superb recommendations. Luckily, I buckled down when I first got my B.A. and graduated with a 3.2 a couple of years back. The bad economy forced me to return to school, so currently I'm taking those prereqs. Next year, I plan to apply. Different schools have their requirements, definitely look at schools in your area that accepts GPAs that are lower than 3.0. In my area ALL the Accelerated BSN programs requires a 3.0 or higher.

Some of your responses are making me even more nervous! Haha

Im holding on to some hope because a few of the programs i'm applying to state a 3.0 PREFERRED gpa, some say 2.5 required, and a couple don't state a gpa at all.

Hopefully I get in somewhere! I'm not being picky at all, that's why i'm applying to schools all over the east coast.

Good luck everyone!
