In my MSN program my group is required to get an article published in a nursing journal (I know, I know), but I gotta do it. Have any of you every been published? Is is a terribly hard process? Any idea what journals would be good to start with? I read a lot of them, and it seems that you just send your article in and they review it, and send you a yah or nah. Any advice would be greatly appeciated, I'm not really into writing for journals, I would rather be waiste high in a good trauma, but we gotta do what they ask! Thank you in advance!:bowingpur:lol2:

it's a lot more work than you think. it was a lot more work than i thought, and i love to write! there were something like five revisions, plus i had to get permission to publish every picture, chart and graph that went with the article. in the end it was worth it, though! i'm a published author!

Wow, what a big requirement, totally dependent on the journals' interests in your topics! How long do you have to do it? I surely hope more than one semester!!

Wow, Wow, WOW! I think it's an unreasonable assignment since you have no idea what publishers might want to publish! I worked with a group of people who got an article published, but we began by sending ideas to a publisher, and then ONE publisher expressed interest. It took alot longer than a year to get all the work done! It was worth the work, but holy cow!

Your not making me feel better!!! My prof supposedly knows people, and will help us get it done, she's supposedly "helping us," it will look great on our resume, blah, blah, blah...

In my grad program, we only had to "prepare" an article for submission. The faculty would review it, and if they felt it was worthy, they (the one's who had prior publishing clout) would "co-submit" it with us. But acceptance was not required, just to have something "potentially" publish-able, that's all. Good Luck!

Wow, I wish you luck on this one ...

A majority of articles published in peer-reviewed journals are the results of research studies. The semester-long time frame of this assignment obviously precludes that.

That limits your published piece to a guest column or something of that nature.

Hmmm ... so who are these contacts that your prof has, and at what publications? I'd get cracking on those immediately.

Look through your previous A papers, and find one that might be interesting to an outsider if you added or subtracted a little something. Submit to your state nursing association's newsletter. (She didn't say WHERE it had to be published.)

If that doesn't work offer to guest write an opinion article for the local paper.

Man am I glad I'm not in your program. That's ridiculous! We have an evidenced-based presentation to do and we have an entire 2 semesters to do it. just have to present it to the college in a public forum. No publishing required. Are they going to fail you for not getting published?? That wouldn't go over well considering its not a standard for master's level education. Good LUCK!
