A Positive Post

With so much negativity going on, including my own complaining, I think it's a good thing to talk about good days at school!

I had a great day at clinicals. I showed up early and eager. The charge nurse and the other nurses were awesome!

They let me do some tasks, such as d/c-ing IVs, hanging blood (while they watched), I had pts hug me.,I gave PO meds, I took a ton of vital signs and charted them.

I had the chance to sit down and talk with pts about their diagnosis.

The nurses took the time to explain stuff to me. I don't usually ask questions, but they encouraged me to pick their brains!

It was a good day'

Agreed...I'm applying to nursing school for next summer and it is SO discouraging seeing so many negative posts about nursing all the time.

I'm glad you had a great day

That's awesome. You are starting out with a great attitude :)

I think it's important to remember the old "people say it louder when they are complaining" or whatever that golden rule is. There are bad work envroemnts in EVERY field and there are good work enviroments as well.

I of course complain about nursing at times but I have been in this field since I graduated high school, it's the only thing I could see doing, I love my co workers and 75% of the time, I love my job. There is really nothing else in this world that would keep my attention long enough to make it a career as nursing has! This is the first space that nurses can come together and VENT for once without fear of a co worker repeating it or someone overhearing us. So my feelings is that is why the majority of the posts seem negative.

Anyways, I like this post!!! Yea for good clinical days. I am due to start in July on clinicals (won't find out till May even though we apply in November, ugh!) but am very very happy I just scored a 97% on my A+P II exame on fluids, metabolism, renal, and digestion because that was a big freaking test. I am also very happy this semester is over beause A+P II has had me studying every minute I am not working or with my kids and husband. Up side is, I have learned a lot!

Regarding the importance of being positive.... My semester has finally ended. I passed my cumulative final, barely! And even though my clinical teacher picked and picked at me and criticized me, I passed!! I think this was due to my faith that God would see me through, as well as the fact that I tried hard to learn the expectations, although they were quite unclear, at times. I also made sure I earned maximum points on all assignments that I was able to. For these reasons, I did pass my semester and have 1 more to go.

That's wonderful. I hope the rest of your year is as wonderful. I'm glad you posted a positive I am supposed to be starting after my summer pre reqs and I was getting discouraged.
