I am a student currently and will be graduating soon. One of the most important things when choosing my job will be health insurance converage, ability of an FSA and more specifically coverage for Infertility. I live in South Florida and looking for anyone without listing ur job that can tell me who receives any type of infertility coverage through their job. Hospital, nursing home , doctors office. I just want to get an idea of what kind of coverage I can benefit if I wait to do my IVF after working for a year or two or if it's best to use my savings and start now. TIA

I'm not in Florida, but I just went through the same thing...Trying to find IVF coverage. I couldn't even find it on private insurance coverage. I do know of one employer in my area that covers it. It's at our local children's hospital. Maybe you can check the benefits and try to get employed if your local one does. As for me, I'm entertaining job opportunities and interviewing for a contract position at the children's hospital with the hopes of getting on permanently but I'm still saving for the procedure just in case I have to do it out right in cash. My procedure and meds will be a little over 20k and plan on doing it this fall (October/November) so at the very least I can write it off next tax season.

I have never heard of a place covering infertility. I did some to try and conceive a second child and we had to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket. I would start saving your money.

I'm not in FL, or work for a hospital anymore, but my insurance covers some for infertility but not the whole amount. So there are some companies out there that do.

Regardless of whether or not you get coverage for IVF... I'd work somewhere for a bit first, because if/when you do become pregnant, you'll need some time under your belt before you qualify for FMLA. I'm in the northeast but our hospital system requires 8 months of service before you can take the maternity leave benefit and still have a job when you come back.

hmm, vintage post. I just joined and the posts are ancient, but I see a reply from about a month ago. I will say that the best way is to quit being a nurse and work for Bank of America. their version of Aetna pays for IVF. Or take an awesome, life-changing vacation to somewhere like India and have it done for only $1000. I mean, no matter where you have it done you have a good chance of not getting pregnant, get PGD and with the money you spend, you'll also get an awesome vacation. I'm sick of the US and its greedy healthcare system.

No need to save money either. Fertility clinics all have financing. The longer you wait, the less likely you'll have a baby.

And don't worry much about FMLA. It's illegal for them to fire you for being pregnant. I never took my FMLA, I just said "I'm having a baby and will need some time to recover". Nurses are hard to find and expensive to hire. If you have infertility, it's not like you can plan to get pregnant anyhow! Your diagnostic treatments prior to IVF and the meds they have you on will be worse than the actual pregnancy anyhow. I wish you luck and all the strength in the world. Just be warned, even if this is successful, it will NOT be easy at all.
