Hello, I am currently an LVN at the LA County College of Nursing and Allied Health. I will graduate with my RN ADN by the end of December. I am currently looking into Western Governor's University (WGU). This would be an online program entirely with the ability to take as many or as little classes in 6 month chunks of time. I am aiming to finish my BSN in 6 months-1 year. I am aiming for Acute Critical Care Nurse Specialist as an end-goal (question #2).

1) I want to know if anybody has experience with this school and what you thought of it.

2) Has anybody had issues getting hired or accepted into higher education (MSN/specialty programs) programs because this was an online degree?

3) Is it possible to finish the BSN in 6 months?

There are multiple threads on WGU, I am a graduate of WGU and have posted lengthy responses on the other threads.

But to your questions....yes to all, you get what you put in and if you want you can finish in 6 months.

For me I had 22 credits to get my BSN, should have taken me 2 terms, I stretched it out to 4 terms just because I was burned out with school, but had I put the effort in I could have been done in 6 months

There's a massive list of reputable schools that have accepted WGU alumni into graduate degree programs. I'll post it in a few minutes.

Several highly motivated people have completed the BSN degree in 6 months or less. It does not happen often, although it can happen if one has the inner drive to make it happen. One of our frequent posters (featherzRN) completed 50 credits in less than four months.

The specific school and program I'm looking to do after WGU is the UCLA acute critical care nurse specialist. Just worried this won't be accepted.

I have had ZERO issues with my BSN through WGU, and do not expect to have any issues with my MSN either

EMT6530. Be assured that you will not have any issues moving on to higher education in your nursing career with a WGU BSN. I have heard nothing but good things about their programs and other schools accept them. You have folks here letting you know that you will not have issues.

If you are still seeking the answer, you might want to contact UCLA and ask them the question that way you have heard it from other students, graduates and the school of interest themselves.

I have chosen to attend WGU Pre-Licensing in August 2015. I had a couple of schools but WGU is the best fit for a working mother who wants to become a nurse.
