What is the take on certified clinical medical assistants verses the Licensed Practical Nurse? The rumor is CCMA's are taking the place of the LPN's, is it true? Concerning states which ones claim this rumor to be true and is it a good idea to do so?

An LPN and MA may have similar roles in a physicians office, but they will never have the same role outside of the office- an LPN's scope of practice is more advanced because they are licensed. LPN's have more responsibility than an MA and are trained into more advanced pharmacology and pathophysiology where an MA is trained in front office work. An LPN can work in a clinic ,where MA's are mainly employed, as well as nursing homes, hospitals, rehabs. Whereas an MA can not work in any of those settings, unless it is an a PCT type of role (usually).

MAs are typically utilized in clinics, doctors' offices, medical groups, and other office-type healthcare environments. The hospital where I work also employs MAs, but only as unit secretaries.

On the other hand, LPNs are used in long term care facilities, psychiatric hospitals, group homes, private duty cases, home health, hospice, rehab, addictions, jails, prisons, the military, and an array of other types of healthcare settings.

No...

LPN's are licensed NURSES; scope is MUCH wider; in my area, MA's make LESS, and I live in a state where LPN scope is VERY wide, utilized LPNs and my area is focused on having nurse-run clinics, employing RNs and LPNs.

Those "claims" can be disputed by researching your states BON, as well as the federal board of occupations-they have a general discription of occupations and job outlook.

Just got my CCMA and it took 3 months with 2 days of 3 hours per day. LVN is 18 months with 5 days/week 6 hours a day.

I received my associates as a certified clinical medical assistant in about 18 months. LVNs are pretty much no longer where I live.  Under myself, I actually do the same exact thing everything down IV therapy. The myth of medical assistants mainly working front office is very belittling to some. In fact, there are ladies at the front desk that make more than some of us in the back. However, being a CCMA has allowed me such a broad range of opportunities with such positions as clinic nurse in urgent cares, wellness coach with one of the largest labs in our country and I have also made me on two years from certain specific MD  levels. It is true that a lot of medical assistants are not licensed however, I am listed in a national registry. I must recertify my license every two years. I do have a younger brother that iOS an LPN, he paid twice as much for school but makes six dollars less an hour than me
