I'm starting my first semester of an entry-level MSN program and am wondering how to buy my books for the topics listed below. I am debating between buying them or renting them. Thanks in advance.

- Nursing Fundamentals

- Pathophysiology

- Contemporary Nursing

- Physical Assessments/Examinations

Physical assessments and patho, buy for sure. You'll reference those throughout nursing school, and possibly beyond. Fundamentals you likely won't need beyond first semester. The contemporary nursing, probably rent. Those kinds of books, things change so rapidly that it'll be outdated by the time you finish this semester. That said, double check to see if you won't need it in future semesters.

Hey there! I am also starting my first semester of nursing courses & I have also debated between renting or buying but I have come to the conclusion that I would rather buy my books instead because when I need to go back on it to refreshes what I leads the previous quarter or so I can just go to my book shelf and grab it instead of having the trouble to rent again. Also, it will help you ALOT when your studying for the NCLEX!

I just finished my 2nd semester (medsurg I and mental health) and I used my fundamentals book to reference papers in both courses. Patho will probably be used in future semesters too. I refer to my physical assessment book all the time for clinical and I'm glad I kept it. I'm not sure what "contemporary nursing" is about though. In my opinion, I would buy the funds, patho and assessment book and I can't comment about the last.

I wouldn't rent a textbook. You may need them in the future and if not, you can always resell them for some money back. I recently resold a few books that have been laying around and I made almost $400!

Like someone else mentioned, I wouldn't rent a textbook. I just finished my first semester in a BSN program and I only sold three of my books on eBay when I was finished. I tend to buy all of my books brand new as well because I don't want someone else's handwritten notes or highlights confusing me with what I learn. I'd definitely buy Patho, Funds, and Assessment. I've kept both my Funds and Assessment books because I know I'll want to reference them in future semesters, plus according to the "recommended reading" for two of my courses next semester, my Funds book is listed.

Buy! But I'm all for ebooks. So I'd say get the ebook version if you can. I love them.
