I am wondering how often hospitals in the Dallas/Fort Worth hire ADN's vs BSN's?

I know there is a big divide on this topic and I do plan on getting my BSN immediately after getting my ADN, however as of right now I simply cannot afford to take the BSN track. Thanks for your input!!!

I was an LVN for 4 years (2006 to 2010) before earning my RN license. The BSN degree is definitely preferred in the DFW area if you are a new nurse with no experience.

However, I did receive a job offer at an outlying DFW-area hospital in late 2010 (Weatherford Regional). I did not accept the offer because they were unwilling to give more than a week of on-the-floor training / orientation.

There is no "divide" - the job market is a reality. Employers have already made the decision that nursing has been waffling about for 30 years. They are focusing on BSN staff due to very clear and compelling large-scale research findings which show that higher percentages of BSN staff have a significantly positive impact on acute care patient outcomes.

Of course, everyone has to deal with the realities of their own personal situations when it comes to educational decisions - but it would be a mistake to assume that the current hospital moratorium on ADN nurses is going to diminish or disappear entirely. This is the new reality. If you're an ADN grad, you'll need to understand that your job options are likely to be limited to non-acute settings.
