Job while in nursing school

Hi!

I have applied to nursing school for Fall 2005. I am pretty sure I will get in since it is a BSN program and there is no wait list. I am working full time now but will have to leave if I get into program. I could probably stay on PT at night but I feel that I will be doing everything I do now but just with shorter hours. The pay at this job is OK but the benefits are great. I am more concerned with losing my benefits than anything else.

Any suggestions where I can look for a PT job other than the newspaper? I would like to start in October with a month off to get settled in at school.

I am thinking about getting a PT at a local organization that works with the mentally disabled. I worked a couple of years ago in a clerical position but if I recall they have positions that are weekend only for about 30 hours and I would get benefits!!!

Thanks

Tracy

How about a pt position at a hospital as an aid or pca?

You might want to also look into local Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities. I currently work PT at an Assisted Living Facility as an Resident Assistant. I was encourged by other nurses and nursing students to work there to help with basic skills and with developing relationships with patients. It has really helped with school. The hopsital is another great place. Anywhere within the medical field that can gain you experience and contacts for the future.

I would definintely advise you to get a job in the healthcare area. The experience that you attain through work will help you imensely in llecture and clinicals. Good luck to you!!

A school with no waiting list?!?!?! Wow, I didn't know such a thing existed!

I was afraid of loosing my benefits too. I stayed at my company and cut my hours down to like 38% of full time. So they cut down my benefit dollars to 38% of what they offer full-timers. I actually can find a much cheaper plan on my own, i'm looking at Blue Cross Care First or something.

I have to say I'm glad I stayed at my job, since i don't think i could have handled learning a new job while in school. But it's totally up to you!
