My NCLEX experience

Hello everybody,

this is my first post today, but definately not my first visit. I have spent the past 2 days with all of you reading about your nclex experiences, and you have helped me so much, thank you !!!! :p

I took my nclex-pn on monday morning, and I got my results today: I passed with 85 questions - praise the Lord! :balloons: The past 48 hours were horrible, I thought I had failed - no I KNEW I had failed, and I was basically getting on everybody's nerves.... But when I read through the posts I knew that my reaction was "normal" - hey as normal as post-nclex depression can be. I don't know one person in my class who took the exam thinking they had passed, but they all did.

Here is what I would like to share with you: If you go to a "good" school, and if you have been a "good" student, then you are already prepared to pass the nclex, you just have to believe in yourself and your knowledge. One thing I have learned that I will do differently when taking my nclex-rn is to start using Q & A books from the very beginning of the program, and spend the last few months before my test reading over difficult material only. I feel that the Q & A books helped me with my timing, and getting used to the wording of the questions, but other than that, I did not have one question on my test that was similar to my Q & A questions (I did about 10,000 including the mandatory computer testing we had to do in school), so you need to know your material.

When taking the nclex - stay calm, I don't think that people fail because they don't have the knowledge, but because they freak out. I had a high A average in school, I thought I was really prepared, but then, when I was sitting in front of this computer I thought that I knew nothing at all. I hyperventilated for a few seconds, but then I remembered one of my teachers telling me, if I had a point during the exam where I did not know the answer, I should take a deep breath, close my eyes and "ask" her. Funny enough it obviously worked for me. So, ask your teacher, and do not freak out - nursing school has prepared you to master your exam.

About my board exam: I had tons of pharmacology questions and calculations, peds, and ob, and not too many Med-Surg. questions. So you never know what you'll get - be prepared.

I wish you all good luck for your state boards, and I hope that my post will help somebody the way your posts have helped me in the past 48 hours of madness :rotfl:
