Hi everyone!

I'm not sure if a topic like this has already been started but I was wondering if they're any montreal registered nurses that have moved to toronto to work there?

How hard was it to get your ontario license? I studied at john abbott college and have been practising as a registered nurse for two and a half years... what steps did you have to follow? Did you have to write another examination?

Also, how hard was it to find a job? What about cost of living?

I haven't done it, but as far as I can tell, cost of living is higher in Toronto. Taxes may be slightly lower but housing is stupid expensive. You might want to look at Ottawa instead.

Hello! I'm an Rn here in Toronto haven't done your exact route but my stepdads neice did :) she's from gaspe area and got her nursing degree in Montreal. She came here 3 year ago with 2 years experience. She did have to write the CRNE exam (to be licsensed in Ontario) contact the CNO as a precious poster mentioned. It wasn't hard for her to qualify to write the exam. She had to send in her paperwork from school/ nursing body from Quebec and she was elidgable to write the next CRNE exam. It wasn't hard for her just that she had to take exam but once you do that it's good for all of Canadian provinces too :) cost of living is very high in Toronto (factor that in) but I'm assuming so is Montreal? Thank you all so much for your help!! I checked into the cno website and, from what I read, it seems like I would only have to write the jurisprudence exam.. but I could be wrong! I requested the application forms today! :)

Hi Frank, I have done those steps in 2012. It's not too complicated. You will need to register yourself as a member

on the CNO website, they will then send you document that you will need to fill up. One section is yours, one for your current employer, one is for the OIIQ board and you will also need to get a criminal check record. There will be fees at the OIIQ and for the criminal check i thinks about 40$ for each. You don't have to take the CRNE exam, the law has changed, I got lucky there was no exams last year but now you need to do the jurisprudence exam which is online and can take upto 3 hours (my friend has done it)

It's long but it's doable. I got my licence within 3 months but it depends as my friend got it in 6 months. If you are really serious about moving to Toronto then you should start applying asap, allow atleast 6 months wait for the CNO licence. Cost of living here is definately higher than Montreal but nurses also do get paid higher here, I say it comes to the same. Now as for the job, it is very very competitive here. Unlike montreal, where you get calls from all the hospitals you apply....to find a job at a hospital could take some time, so you need to be patient, this is why you should start ahead. You might not get full time offers or find a something you like but its a short time sacrifice.

But you can go through agencies and if you are bilingual, it's a big asset here. I hope this helps you, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. :)
