Hello All!

I am a pre-nursing student. I have my BA in Psychology from ASU, but decided a couple of years ago that I would like to get my BSN. I have completed most of the pre-nursing courses. I still need physiology and microbiology. For two semesters I have been enrolled in these two classes and then had to drop them due to schedule changes and such. I am married (my husband travels 5 days a week for work), and we have 4 children, ages 6 to 12. We live in San Diego. From what I've seen, the schools here that I will apply to only accept courses that were taken on campus. Pre-nursing students who are also moms, how did you make it work? I feel so close yet so far away from my goal, which at this point is just getting my prereq's finished! lol Any words of wisdom out there? Please share your stories!

I have five children, and I know your pain. I have a Bachelors in Education and am returning for my BSN. I have taken all of my classes as online or hybrid. Right now I'm doing Microbiology and the lab is in class. It is a time challenge, but I believe that if you want it bad enough, it will force you to prioritize. Right now, my family and school are priority and they trump everything else. Good luck, you can do it!

I went to all my prereqs while my son was in school. I started at 8 am (I drop him off at 7:15 at a friends and they walk together) and had to be done by 2:30 to pick him up. 5 days a week of that, I managed to get all of my prereqs done in 4 semesters (2 summers, but my son is 12 and can stay home alone if need be). I needed all my prereqs, so it took awhile. You will need to have someone available as your backup since your hubby is out of town. And, you just have to do it. Life will try to get in your way, and you just can't let it.

I have applied to start taking my core nursing classes this spring. I have two kids one is 2 and the other is 3 months old. It has not been easy but I make it work. I am a SAHM when I am not at school so I do not work outside of the home. The times I get the most studying done is before the kids get up in the morning (I get up earlier then they do), nap time and after they go to bed. I depend on a lot of help from family members and DH (who is also in school and working full time). My house is rarely clean and I try to make our meals ahead of time or do a lot of crock pot cooking. It is not easy but we are doing it.

I also have four children I'm taking 14 credit hours anatomy chemistry computers and math for meds, I will be quite honest when I say that right now I have no life outside of school. Studying for anatomy it's the bulk of my time I literally study all the time and I never go anywhere without my book. I think you just have to get to the point where you know this is what you need to do and you just have to make sacrifices to do it. In the end it will be a short blip on our map but it will be worth it for us and for our children. Just don't get behind in studying for Anatomy

I have a 1 year old son and another due to make his grand enterance into the world in 8 weeks. I am taking A&P2 and Micro right now and I sometimes feel very overwhelmed. I get a lot of support from my husband and other family members. It takes a lot of priority making and long nights. I have to remind myself that in the end this is all going to be worth it.... :)

Thanks everybody who chimed in on this. I was having a poor me day. lol Dust myself off and get back in it. Time to stop letting things get in the way! Currently I am looking for a Physiology and Micro class somewhere other than the community college. They do not have any classes that will work with our current schedules. On the hunt! Wow, that is a lot on your plate! I only have physiology and micro left to take. I was just about half way through the semester last fall when I had to drop them due to my husband's schedule change. Anatomy took a ton of studying, but I feel physiology was harder for me! I will definitely be putting in my time on the last two classes I need. Good luck to you!

I have three kids and I started taking my classes last summer. Up until this semester, I was taking only 1 class at a time, which just got painful because it was so slow! I am in my last science course now and have a few gen. ed. courses next semester to enter an ABSN program hopefully next fall. I have no life outside of school and kids, but that is okay, but I also have my moments (try 10 minutes ago when I was telling my computer what I really thought of my online french course to finish up my humanities credits). I feel that a lot of people just do not understand what this really takes and it is easier for me to just not deal with them. I have compared getting into nursing school like one of those laser pointers - I can see the red dot, I can get close to it and I am sure it is there, but I just cannot actually touch it. Just keep the end goal in mind and keep going!!!
