New NA on Telemetry Unit

Hey everyone,

I just was offered a position as a NA in a telemetry unit at Beaumont Hospital. I have never been a NA before, and Beaumont is training me in a 2 week course. Any suggestions or advice to working on a telemetry unit or being a new NA? Thanks!! :-)

Dont be afraid to ask questions, GOOD LUCK!

I doubt that the "telemetry" part of the floor will have anything to do with your duties. You will no doubt be performing standard assistive functions such as vitals, baths, toileting, etc.

The only thing different you will be dealing with as a CNA is taking of the heart monitors for showers, putting heart monitors on when admissions come and yeah just taking the telemetry pack on and off. Thats is. If your asked to do anything else its outside of your scope of practice

Depends on the hospitals scope of practice. Where I work, we do ECG/EKG tracings, start telemetry, d/c telemetry as ordered by the RN, and general NA duties. But the SOP in the UK seems a little broader than the US.

Congrats on the new job, that's awesome =) I'm hoping to get a telemetry tech position soon.

Learn as much as you can and always ask when in doubt...
