I'm 17 and I just finished the PN program in January.

I'm really eager to take my NCLEX

But I'm also a senior in a technical, demanding high school.

Although I've managed to culminate two free periods I can seem to put the same amount of study in that my mom did upon taking hers.

She tells me to listen to old audio stuff that she used like before 2005 saying nothing has really changed.

I'm not a very good audio learner, I'm a visual learner instead.

She's on my back and Im sick of it.

I want to start off on the right foot and really put all my efforts to passing this test until June which is when I graduate high school.

Any advice?

There are a ton of books out there. I recommend the Saunders. I graduated from an RN program so I don't have actual experience with the PN versions - but the RN ones rock! Hope this helps a bit, from one visual learner to another :)

Yeah I agree Saunders is a great resource, don't stress too much about it. It is hard to retain information when you are anxious.

Saunders really helps, it also has illustrations that will help you learn...goodluck to you..

Concentrate on finishing high school. Perhaps you can work in two to four hour NCLEX study sessions on weekends. Then when school is over, go full time at preparing for NCLEX. Your Mom should realize that your priority right now is to graduate. Saunders Comprehensive Review is used by many as their primary study resource with the desired results. Good luck.

NCSBN learning extension is an online course. I used it to study for NCLEX RN and highly recommend it. It is available to purchase for 3wks, 5wks, 8wks, or 15wks. I used the 3 week course and passed. It is always up to date to the current NCLEX test plan.

When I finished LPN school 11 years ago I was 19 years old and it was 6 months after highschool, I did not open a book once and passed it the first time 4 months later. Just get 1 book and stick with it. Tell your mom that you're very stressed out and that they changed the boards recently so her books wont help. Be thankful that you have her there for you:redbeathe

Good luck to you. What I find pretty funny is that you are 17 and your mom is riding your coat tails and I am 38 and my mom calls me daily to see if I am studying for the NCLEX-RN, LOL. I guess all moms are alike but they just want us to pass. You will be fine but focus on finishing high school first then concentrate on the NCLEX after you graduate.

Yeaaa moms are all definitely the same but there's more riding on me getting my license than just having it. It's a way out for me in a way. I just so desperately want to pass it.
