what can i do to make myself a desirable psych rn candidate?

I'm working in corrections right now, its my first job, by dream has always been to be a psychiatric rn so I'm trying to think of things I can do to improve my chances of getting a psych rn job. Maybe some workshops? continuing education about psych nursing? What else can I do? and where I can find recourses to get some training in psychiatric nursing? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I bet you have some experience with psych patients in your work in corrections. Think through all you've seen there.

I'd boldly go to the manager of a psych unit and/or the DON of a psych hospital and tell them your goal, as well as your experience, and ask what they would like to see in a nurse they hired for their unit/facility. Call and make an appointment to talk. I think they'd respect you for doing that, and it would be a foot in the door.

I have worked both, and if you have worked corrections for any length of time you have dealt with a bunch of mental health issues. You might also start out per diem on a mental health unit if they have that available.
